    Dean Li Guanghui Leads Delegation to Northeast China Universities

    From April 23 to 25, Li Guanghui, Dean of the China–ASEAN School of Economics, the School of Economics, and the China–ASEAN Institute of Financial Cooperation at Guangxi University, led a delegation to Northeast China for research and academic exchange. The delegation, which included Vice Dean Tan Chunzhi and Assistant Professors Lu Jiarui, Gong Kailin, visited the School of Finance and Trade at Liaoning University, the School of Economics at Jilin University, and the Institute of Borderland Studies and the Institute for Prosperity and Development of Border Areas at Yanbian University.

    On the morning of April 23, Liu Wei, Party Secretary of the School of Finance and Trade at Liaoning University, Vice Deans Li Xiandong and Li Dan, and Lecturer Liu Zhen attended the symposium. Liu Wei extended a warm welcome to the delegation and introduced the university’s history, disciplinary development, and talent cultivation initiatives, expressing the hope that both sides would further strengthen cooperation and leverage their complementary strengths. Tan Chunzhi introduced the distinctive features of the School’s educational programs and its demand for high-level talent recruitment, particularly emphasizing the urgent need for outstanding scholars specializing in ASEAN and borderland studies. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on talent recruitment policies, mechanisms for scientific research collaboration, and the development of young faculty members, reaching broad consensus on future cooperation.

    Following the symposium, the delegation visited the Comprehensive Experimental Center for Humanities and Social Sciences, a National Demonstration Center for Experimental Teaching. Professor Bu Naishun, Director of the Center, gave a detailed introduction to its educational philosophy of “stepping beyond the campus to engage with real-world scenarios, entering society to identify practical issues, and advancing to the forefront to pursue pragmatic innovation.”

    On the morning of April 24, Nie Hongkai, Party Secretary of the School of Economics at Jilin University, Dean Ding Yibing, and Shen Si from the Graduate Affairs Office attended the symposium. Nie Hongkai spoke highly of Jilin University graduates currently working in Guangxi and expressed his expectations for their future development. Ding Yibing introduced the School’s research achievements in the field of regional trade and expressed the hope of further strengthening cooperation between the two institutions. Tan Chunzhi highlighted the development history of the School and its demand for talent specializing in ASEAN- and borderland-economy-related studies. As distinguished alumni of Jilin University, Lu Jiarui and Gong Kailin shared their experiences and reflections since joining the School. Both sides agreed that cooperation pathways and innovative mechanisms could be further explored in the fields of ASEAN and borderland international trade.

    On the morning of April 25, the delegation visited the Institute of Borderland Studies and the Institute for Prosperity and Development of Border Areas at Yanbian University. An Guoshan, Executive Dean of the Institute, Honorary Dean Piao Cankui, Vice Deans Jin Xijie and Jin Juntie attended the exchange symposium. Guided by Vice Dean Jin Xijie, the delegation toured the “Digital Visualization Platform for Borderland Studies,” independently designed and developed by the Institute. Featuring a dynamic and technology-driven display system, the platform comprehensively presented the Institute’s development history, strategic orientation, faculty team, talent cultivation, research initiatives, and academic achievements. It also highlighted General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important remarks on borderland regions made during his inspection tour in Jilin Province, fully demonstrating the Institute’s firm political commitment and forward-looking academic vision.

    Subsequently, the two sides held a thematic seminar on “Borderland Economy and Talent Development.” At the meeting, An Guoshan gave a detailed introduction to the Institute’s general profile, disciplinary strengths, and achievements in serving borderland development, expressing the hope of further deepening cooperation between the two universities in areas such as borderland talent cultivation, joint research, and think tank development. Dean Li Guanghui highlighted Guangxi University’s distinctive strengths in disciplinary development related to borderland and ASEAN studies. He noted that, against the backdrop of profound changes unseen in a century, it is essential to seize the historic opportunities presented by borderland studies and make meaningful contributions to border security and borderland development. Tan Chunzhi introduced the development history of Guangxi University and the School’s talent recruitment needs, particularly the demand for researchers specializing in borderland economy studies. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on concrete pathways for borderland economic cooperation and agreed that, with Guangxi University located in Southwest China’s border region and Yanbian University situated in Northeast China’s border region, the two universities enjoy complementary geographical advantages and broad prospects for coordinated development. Both sides expressed the expectation of carrying out extensive cooperation in areas including joint education programs, talent cultivation, scientific research collaboration, and joint platform development.

    This visit to Northeast China further expanded the School’s cooperation network in areas including talent cultivation, research collaboration, and talent recruitment. Through in-depth exchanges with the three universities, the School gained valuable experience, laying a solid foundation for future north-south coordination and for better serving the national strategy for promoting borderland development and prosperity.
